may Wii connect?

Ok maybe not that “We Connect”. Though it makes me giggle and cringe to remember her performance on “Facts of Life” as Cinnamon.

I’m pretty sure I haven’t posted my Wii numbers yet for anyone that wants to register mine with theirs. I’ve only connected with a few local and a few online friends so far but the more the merrier!

  • Wii: 0980 2824 0973 7868
  • MarioKart: 3909 8378 7821
  • Super Smash Bros. Brawl: 0173 2269 5143

Drop a line in the comments with your numbers, or send me e-mail if you’ve got my address.

only in DC: Alberto’s and Julia’s

A truly classic “only in DC” moment: Bonding with complete strangers in the metro when they spy your Alberto’s pizza boxes. Having the conversation move on to Julia’s Empanadas, and then watching the two of them pretend to fight over one of them not really liking her Julia’s experience.

Ah, good times.

By the time the buzz was wearing off…

Pooch Cafe: Poo Poo calls Poncho out on his weirdness

This is why socialized nerds and geeks have an off-switch. I don’t follow many printed comic strips regularly, only seeing the ones in Express, but today’s Pooch Cafe made me LOL, if you will, on the train. Not that I recall The Avengers fighting Godzilla, but it’s the kind of reference I’d pull out. One that is completely appropriate to the situation, but one that is also completely lost on the present audience.

Last night was a fun evening, the gang met up and were treated to quite the spread by Paul. The food star of the evening was his wings which were absolutely amazing, but he also made a custom cocktail and had plenty of nibbles. The plan was to watch “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?” but the tone of the evening was rather fun and high-spirited that we watched “Rick & Steve: The Happiest Gay Couple in All the World” instead. Since I don’t watch much of anything that appears on LOGO, I’d never seen any episode beyond the first one. They’re very cute and funny, but they still rely on that whole “we’re not being offensive, we’re being so offensive that it’s not offensive!” reason for really pushing it.

I have no plans for the weekend. Part of my brain still doesn’t recognize that it is a holiday weekend. Without the constant reinforcement of people asking me what I’m doing, I might well have gotten up on Monday morning and tried to come into work. Hopefully the weather will hold up so I can take some fresh air breaks in between cleaning house. They reopened the storage area, but made a new rule that we can’t store anything in cardboard boxes. I’m hoping that doesn’t refer to the storage of cardboard boxes because I’m not trying to buy a bunch when I next move. A quick trip or two to Target should get me some proper sized tubs to throw my junk in.

I know the city will be packed due to Black Gay Pride, but I don’t know if DC is being seen as a popular destination this year what with the crazy weather we’ve been having. I might be better off staying close to home and avoiding popular parts of town the weekend or finding some last minute plans to get out of here altogether. In any case, the office is empty, the day should be slow and I’m counting the minutes ’til I can scurry along home.

in the office: Oh well, whatever, nevermind

Tamara J. Erickson at Harvard Business talks about 10 Reasons Gen X’ers Are Unhappy at Work

Many of you X’ers are not thrilled with corporate life. You tend not to trust institutions in general and deeply resent the Boomers’ confident assumptions that you will be motivated by the same things that Boomers have long cared about. Many of you have told me that you are planning to leave corporate life “soon” – to start entrepreneurial ventures or work for smaller companies – options you feel will suit you better than the corporate roles looming ahead.

She makes some good points, and I’ve experienced more than a few of her examples. I don’t feel that being unhappy at work is exclusive to Gen X, but in my time I’ve definitely felt the cultural clash between my father’s working generation and mine.

James and the Giant Penis

William Shatner as Star Trek\'s Captain Kirk holding a vaguely penis-shaped prop rock.

A reader sent this image in to Queerty after they ran a post about William Shatner’s autobiography where he recounts the tale of his first time in (1950s) New York, following his dream of being an actor, and he’s invited to a show at Radio City Music Hall by a complete stranger and of course :?: he accepts…

We’re in the audience, I’m a young hot-blooded Canadian and out come the dancing girls, a plethora of women - and I feel his hand brush my knee. I thought, well, it’s an accident, then I felt it again. What the [bleep]? I got up and ran out.

From a more snarky viewpoint, it looks like Shatner finally got to hold the physical representation of his ego. If only he knew then that later wearing of eyeshadow, foundation and girdles would make him a tv/sci-fi legend… I’m not saying Shatner’s a homophobe at all, but I can’t help but think the story sounds too much like the Tucker Carlson tale of being hit on in a bar restroom.

Also, my geekness is totally letting me down. Anyone recall what episode this shot is from? William, I’m looking in your direction…
