“Our pockets are empty, but we’re going to hold on to God!”

Wow, how did I miss this? Pray at the Pump holds prayer groups at gas stations in an effort to appeal to God to bring gas prices down.

“This whole thing is a wake-up call from God to Americans, because we idolize men so much,” said Twyman, 59, a public relations consultant and Seventh-day Adventist who believes that high gas prices are a sign of the apocalypse drawing nigh. “I think through this crisis, God is trying to call us back to depend on Him more.”

Of course this doesn’t surprise me. It just saddens me. God is not a cosmic ATM, nor is he Santa Claus, nor is he Mr. Wolf.

Also, what people in this country do not realize is that gasoline prices have been artificially low for at least three decades. Our whole economy was built around an inflated prosperity. Now we have to deal with it, and we would do better to deal with it by eschewing apocalyptic drama, and instead rationally cowboy up, adapt to the situation, and work through it. But I don’t count on that - my fellow countrypersons would much rather throw drama and call on the Cosmic Mr. Wolf.

@kyle: I understand and respect the need to find reassurance and security through one’s faith, but I just have to laugh at this. Remind you of anything?

I’m frustrated because I cannot quickly find the quote where he mentions that God is busy because he can watch women taking showers…

They don’t know how good they have it. If they were in San Diego (where prices are still over $4), they would pray for the wrath of God to put those poor, cash-strapped people out of their misery.

Really, there’d be more name it and claim it kind of prayers.
