When I read about this in this morning’s Express, it wasn’t the most shocking story. That award was tied by Foley insisting he did nothing wrong, though at least he’s officially out now (with a high-class boyfriend at that!) and an 11-year-old Florida boy abandoned in Nebraska. I’m sorry, but that is one messed up safe haven law and some fucked up people to decide they’ve just “had enough” of dealing with their own children.
But seeing as how it was a flub by Lindsay Lohan, I still had a chuckle and decided to look into it this morning:
It’s an amazing feeling. It’s our first [???] president.
Some are saying that she said “colored,” others think she stumbled over trying to say “person of color,” others are trying to stick up for her saying that she mumbled the word “good.” You be the judge:
HuffPo is running a poll about it and the comment threads are full, of course. They also note that Perez Hilton and Defamer are saying that she said “colored” but that’s just the sort of thing they’d do. I don’t really have much of an opinion because I don’t watch silly entertainment “news” shows, but it wouldn’t be a week in America without some kind of scandal.
Also:
- She was still pleased that Obama won, and
- It’s Lindsay Lohan, people.
’nuff said, really.

Of course this week has been pretty bittersweet, having an enormous victory at the same time as major setbacks. At the very least, we will have a Democrat in the White House that is at least willing to recognize that the nation contains all kinds of people and they are deserving of equal rights. Sadly, many of the same people who voted for that candidate don’t feel the same way.
First the “funny, but sad and true” from The Foggy Dew, WTF California?:
Are you seriously kidding me?
California voters outlawed gay marriage yesterday, but approved a ballot measure giving egg-laying chickens more rights.
cheap blue guitar wrote a very nice entry on it as well, pointing out that $73 million dollars were raised by both Prop 8 camps. Unconstitutional:
I have a message for all who supported California’s Proposition 8, Arizona’s Proposition 102 and Florida’s Proposition 2.
Gay marriage will happen.
It is going to be reality and there is nothing — NOTHING — you can do to stop it. You can spend all the money you have and tell all the lies you want to slow it down, but mark my words, one day, every citizen in this country – gay or straight – will have equal rights for all. Every single one of us.
It will happen.

I’m pretty much overwhelmed right now. Horns are honking, people in my building are screaming, people outside are cheering, fireworks are going off. I’m getting dressed to meet Kyle and go out and do.. SOMETHING… as soon as I stop crying.
This is simply incredible.

A new month, a new Bash Magazine. Keith Knight’s submitted strip of The K Chronicles gave me a wonderful chuckle on the ride home.
At first I thought it would be so easy to be offended by the strip and then I thought, “Hey, at least they’re voting Democrat!” It is definitely one of the few times when that term actually succeeds in being humorous and relevant without throwing it out for nothing but a raised eyebrow or some shock. And technically it’s not the whole word, so there’s nothing to really be upset with.
I’m set for an early morning tomorrow to make it to the polls and then we’ll see how the day goes. I imagine that there won’t be a whole lot of work taking place at offices tomorrow and I only hope that CNN can keep up with the web traffic!
Update: Turns out this is based on something that was reported. However I’ve seen stories from both a door-to-door canvasser and a campaign caller. I don’t doubt it happened, but I can’t get a confirmed source.

Thinking about the electoral shenanigans, those appearing in campaign ads and those unattributed efforts from people trying to trick or scare voters, it reminds me of a story:
In the old days the South came up with literacy tests to keep Blacks from voting. One Black man was determined to pass the test and vote. He studied day and night.
On election day he went in to take his test. First the examiner asked him to say the Gettysburg Address backwards. To the amazement of the examiner he did. Next they asked him for the name of George Washington’s horse. Again he got it right.
After the examiner scratched his head he gave the man a Chinese newspaper and told him to read it out loud. The man took the newspaper and tried to read it. The poor fellow trying to vote said, “I can’t read the fine print, but I can see what the headline says.” Astonished the examiner asked him, “What does the headline say?” The man replied, “This is one Black man that isn’t going to vote today.”

Thinking about that story just makes me laugh at all of the crap that’s passed out and e-mailed and uttered these days trying to discourage people from voting their conscience or turning up to vote at all. When compared to what was done in the past to keep minorities and undesirables from the polls, these groups today are rank amateurs. It’d be really easy to get mad about it, but I think I’d rather laugh it off, spread the truth and vote.
