Rap video outfit or Prom dress?

Marche Taylor modeling her skimpy prom dress

I think this girl had big plans and was really going somewhere. Namely a late night “Girls Gone Wild” video shoot after her prom. Bobby just told me about this story of a girl taken away in handcuffs after wearing a skimpy dress to her prom and being denied entry. CNN has video of the “story” which I call out for being slow news day fluff, but even so gimme a break, girl. A few frames of the video show that the Prom flyer, had she read and/or paid it any heed, made it clear that her outfit would be unacceptable. And because she couldn’t get her way, she caused a scene. She wore that dress to get some attention, and it looks like she got her wish.

And on the other side of the scale, this poor guy gets a ticket for trespassing because a deputy didn’t care for seeing him in a speedo… on the beach.

But hey, it’s not as if there’s any important news we should be informed about instead, right?

Ahead, Geek Factor 10!

Justice League: The New Frontier via Netflix Play Now

New TV + VGA/PC Audio Connection + Netflix Watch Instantly +
Justice League: The New Frontier =

The other picture shows it off better, but I realized there was some schmutz on the tv which I had to clean off. Still, it’s very impressive and goes a long way towards creating one’s home-media empire. I have multiple devices that can access my home network’s music and photos, the internet, incoming cable and Hi-Def signals and play video games to name a few things. The interface for the laptop is nice as the TV just becomes a second monitor, but it’s clunky since I still need multiple cables for video/audio. I’ve seen a VGA/Audio to HDMI adapter but it’s around $180 and I’m still on the fence about buying a new laptop which might already have HDMI output or at least DVI.

The setup I cobbled together works well for now, and this feels more like I’m making the most of out the subscriptions and gadgets that I’ve paid for. I don’t have any plans to start PC gaming on the big screen, but with the right wireless mouse and keyboard, it’s not out of the question. I have been neglecting my PC gaming of late, the allure of Hi-Def is pretty strong and frankly I’ve been bored with the current offerings. I need something new, whether that’s MMO or single-player. A game that is fun, isn’t twitch and that doesn’t make my machine work triple-time to render. I’m well-aware that’s asking a lot but I haven’t picked up anything more than a casual game in a long while. Generally something to play for a few minutes while I organize music or listen to a podcast or to get my brain into sleep mode when up against the wall of insomnia. It turns out firing colored balls into patterns is a lot more mind-numbing than I thought it could be.

Looking forward to a quick workday (hopefully) and the return of our warm (but not hot) temps. They mentioned some areas might see snow today. Snow!? Gah!

Ladies and Gentlemen, my brother’s alma mater…

For many students college life may be a safe haven to experience homosexual desires. Within the confines of Howard University, students are concerned with the high number of bisexual and/or gay men and women.

Due to mixed feelings and fast spreading rumors, students are paranoid about the notion of homosexual relations taking place at Howard University.

No one needs to tell me that as a whole, the black community is needlessly homophobic. But I more or less tried to hold out hope for the next generation, so it comes as quite a shock that not only would a student write and submit this “article” but that The Hilltop would print it.

Since I haven’t consumed my morning coffee yet, thankfully there are others out there on the ‘net already ripping this thing to shreds. Chris Crain points out that the quoted psychologist was expelled from the APA over 2 decades ago. And the general consensus over on Queerty, including a comment from a HU alum and former Hilltop staffer, is that this is utter BS.

I won’t deny that I’m sure very many blacks and, by extension, black college students feel that way, but give me a break. This article uses, possibly out of context, quotes from students (one a psychology major, that’s got to be a valid source!), a discredited psychologist and the best of all, closing with an excerpt from an internet advice columnist. Man that is some journalism!

Why can’t I work for a place this cool?

“Well done” created by Bruketa & Zinić is the new annual report for Podravka, the biggest food company in South-East Europe. It consists of two parts:

  • a big book containing numbers and a report of an independent auditor
  • a small booklet that is inserted inside the big one that contains the very heart of Podravka as a brand: great Podravka’s recipes.

To be able to cook like Podravka you need to be a precise cook. That is why the small Podravka booklet is printed in invisible, thermo-reactive ink. To be able to reveal Podravka’s secrets you need to cover the small booklet in aluminium foil and bake it at 100 degrees Celsius for 25 minutes.

dezeen has the full story on this amazing publication. Of course it makes me wonder how many regular printed editions they have on standby in case people aren’t very careful re-heaters!

I wish I could work for a company creating fun and interesting media like that. Of course one can’t create thermal-reactive websites… ooh that’s a scary thought. Tons of calls to tech support from people who just recovered from snapping off their “drink trays” to over-baking their flat screen monitors.

And for a little chuckle, Wonderella saves the internet in Melanin Colleague and The Infinite Sadness.
