parodies: Just because it’s fake doesn’t mean it ain’t true

From Jesus’ General come these great parody ads of Senators Larry Craig and David Vitter, co-sponsors of the Marriage Protection Amendment

A well-needed chuckle after reading about Obama’s recent turn towards endorsing faith-based organizations.

politics: Aww, redneck racism is so charming!

Button: If Obama is President... will we still call it The White House?

I read about this button yesterday and thought I shrugged it off. Just like I thought I shrugged off the sock monkey puppet and Curious George t-shirt, but give me a f**king break people. I think this joke was born from an incident in January:

William R. Farr was pretending to read telegrams congratulating this year’s award recipient … when he pulled out a piece of paper and said, “I have a telegram from the White House.”

Then he added, “They’re going to have to change the name of that building if Obama’s elected.”

Witnesses said they could hear people gasp in the ballroom of the Adam’s Mark Hotel.

Hilarious, right? Farr was raked over the coals, apologies followed, yet another step backwards away from the goal of at least tolerance if not acceptance.

Apparently someone from RepublicanMarket.com thought, “Hey, what a great idea for a button!” I looked at their site where the Obama pin has completely disappeared, but looking at some of their other buttons, I’m not sure why they bothered to take it down. It would be right at home.

So since I was still annoyed this morning, I brought in two of my mini books that survived the last donation purge and I’ll be posting some fun snippets from those later on. I know there are gay republicans and there are good republicans — those two don’t necessarily overlap. But it sucks when the two-party system doesn’t allow a member of one party to say anything complimentary about a candidate of the other party, but take a disparaging comment or joke too far and it’s the shot heard ’round the world.

Separated at Near-Death?

From an IM with Bill, he informed me that Ross Perot is back at it and gave me a link to Perot Charts. Yes, Ross Perot is back and he’s armed with the awesome power of visual representations of data.

I took one look at the page and I realized that Perot was never really off the grid, he’d just been a little more animated than anyone suspected…

Shoeless Hump Day

I can’t say for certain whether today will be a good day or a bad one. I got up a wee bit later than usual as I was having a dream that contributed to me thinking I’d gotten up when I hadn’t. Managed to make it up and out the door ok when I realized that something wasn’t quite right. I started my check, as I do, from the top: bag, necklace, collar stays, belt, badge, keys, wallet… And then I realized, even though it isn’t on my checklist, that I’d left the apartment without any shoes on. I wonder how far I would have gotten.

Barack Obama eating: Nom Nom Nominee

I was playing video games last night and keeping my windows closed due to the impending tornado that seemed ready to rage outside, but even so I couldn’t keep from hearing the news. As Doctor Who says, “Not impossible… just a bit unlikely.” I can only hope that this is a sign of more improbable things to come. Hm, GM did say they’re making the shift to producing smaller cars and that “the S.U.V. era is all but over.” Maybe things are finally shifting away from a nation mired in the expectations and entitlement of the past and moving towards the future at last.

It’s too hot out, everyone on the metro looked wilted. And as DC approaches Summer, the rain doesn’t help relieve the humidity, just seems to make it worse!

Area Man Discovers Glimmer of Awareness

Good ol’ Jonesville Church of God. It looks like Pastor Roger Byrd realized that just maybe people might take some offense to linking a presidential candidates last name to that of a terrorist’s first name. Especially as a religiously endorsed effort to “stir people’s minds,” which sounds more like a scene in a bad horror flick.

The WYFF4.com story about the sign was viewed more than a quarter million times by users across the country. Hundreds of negative comments regarding the sign were posted online. On Tuesday, Byrd apparently decided the wording on the sign should be replaced.

The sign is now back to the very typical threatening you with eternal damnation, but in a lighthearted way slogan you’d normally expect from the Southern church. Nice decision, dumb-ass.

Shrimp and Grits made a good point that never even occurred to me. I wonder how many people saw this story and thought that it was made with an online church sign generator, since many people most likely saw it on other blogs and not the original NBC affiliate site. I admit I didn’t watch the video since I still prefer to read the news, not watch it, during my work day.
